Ken Ashlock Vice President Ken Ashlock was employed by the City of Tempe in June of 1973. His first position was as a Utility Maintenance Worker I or a laborer in the Water and Waste Water Division. His job duties were assisting in the installation, repair and maintenance of ¾ through 2 inch water services, and the installation, repair and maintenance of 4 through 14 inch water lines and fire hydrants. In December of 1973 ken was promoted to Water Meter Repairman II. His job duties were finding and correcting on 8 different types of water meters ranging in size from ¾ through 2 inch piston and disc meters, as well as 2 through 8 inch compound meters. This work included working in confined spaces and inventory management. From 1977 - 1979 ken was supervising meter shop personnel. In June of 1979 Ken accepted a lateral transfer back to field operations as a Utility Maintenance Worker II, because of the closing of the meter repair shop. His job duties were Supervising a 3 to 6 man crew in the installation of 4 through 6 inch sewer services and mainlines, Recording man hours, equipment hours and material used, as well as reading and drawing of as-built drawings. In September of 1979 Ken was promoted to a Utility Maintenance Worker III. His job duties were Supervising a 3 to 6 employees in the installation, repair and maintenance of ¾ through 2 inch water services, and the installation, repair and maintenance of 4 through 14 inch water mains. Recording man hours, equipment hours and material used, as well as reading and drawing of as-built drawings. Ken was also responsible for scheduling work and coordinating utility locations. In November 1985 was promoted as the Cross-Connection Control Specialist for the City of Tempe's Cross Connection Control Program. He is the program administrator responsible for more than 4700 municipal and privately owned assemblies. Ken acquired his training from the Foundation for Cross-Connection Control and Hydraulic Research at the University of Southern California. Ken holds certificates as a Certified Backflow Assembly Tester and Cross Connection Specialist. from American Backflow Prevention Association. Ken has been instructing classes in Backflow Prevention Assembly Testing since 1988. Ken is Vice President in Cross Connection Environmental which offers seminars in Backflow assembly Testing, Cross Connection Specialist. Ken has been an instructor in Backflow Tester certification for Gateway Community College and is currently an instructor for both Cross Connection Environmental LLC, and Arizona Chapter ABPA instructing classes in Backflow Prevention Assembly Testing, Cross Connection Specialist and Backflow Prevention Assembly repair. Ken's memberships include: The Arizona Water Pollution Control Association (AWPCA). He has been a member of The American Backflow Prevention Association since 1985 and was instrumental in the formation of the Arizona Chapter of the American Backflow Prevention Association, where he served as chapter president in 1992-93, Regional Director 1994-96, Vice President 1996-97, International President 1997-1999, and Ken is a lifetime member Association, where he is currently serving as National Conference Chair. Ken also serves on the Governmental Affairs Committee. Ken was honored at the 2002 International Conference with the Associations highest award the Meritorious Service Award.
